Mary Calam Joins The Cyber Helpline as Trustee

We are thrilled to announce that Mary Calam has joined The Cyber Helpline as our new Trustee!

Mary had a long career in the UK government, working in senior roles in a range of agencies across counter terrorism, national security and law enforcement, including the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.  Her last executive role was as Director General for Crime, Policing and Fire in the Home Office.

She left government for consulting in 2016, joining McKinsey & Company, where she served public sector clients around the world, focussing on policing, justice and broader government strategy.  She also provided advice to commercial clients on crisis management.

Mary now works as an independent consultant and board adviser, primarily in law enforcement and national security.  She has a range of non executive director and trustee appointments, including the Police Foundation, the UK’s thinktank for policing.

She brings extensive experience of working across both the public and private sectors, particularly in relation to government affairs, security and risk.

The Cyber Helpline is a small charity, with a big impact. Cybercrime can have a devastating and long term impact on people’s lives and The Cyber Helpline is unique in the practical, expert support that it provides to victims.  As a Trustee, I look forward to helping the executive team grow the charity and provide this vital help to more people, as well as working with government and law enforcement to build understanding of this expanding area of crime.

She will help pursue the charity’s objectives, actively contribute to setting policies, and evaluating performance against targets. She will also help safeguard the charity's reputation and values, ensuring efficient administration.
