Dear [Recipient Name],

My name is [Your name] and I live within your constituency. [Outline your experience with cybercrime including the impact it had on you and any law enforcement experiences].

The Cyber Helpline - a charity providing recovery and prevention support to cybercrime victims - estimates that 5 million people fall victim to cybercrime in the UK every year, yet 98.1% of cases are closed with no further action taken. From personal experience, I know these are not just statistics. They represent real people whose lives are destroyed by online crimes.

Currently, victims are isolated and unsupported. Law enforcement is ill-equipped, and support services are critically underfunded. The Ministry of Justice budget cuts for cybercrime victim support will only worsen this crisis.

I implore you to:

  • Push for comprehensive cybercrime victim support legislation.

  • Increase funding for online crime investigation units.

  • Mandate better support services for victims.

  • Support charities like The Cyber Helpline so they can keep providing crucial assistance to victims.

Responding to cybercrime is often time critical, and organisations like The Cyber Helpline offers people like me vital support where the justice system often does not.

[If you have used The Cyber Helpline outline any support you have received and it’s impact]

We need immediate action to protect and support victims. I would be grateful if you could raise the above with relevant ministers, including the Minister of State of Crime and Policing, speak up in Parliament about this issue, or talk to anyone else you believe could help victims of cybercrime to get the support they so desperately need.

The Cyber Helpline is happy to talk to you about how cybercrime support for members of our constituency can be improved. Please get in touch with them by reaching out to charlotte@thecyberhelpline.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

[your name]
