About The Cyber Helpline

The Cyber Helpline is a charity founded by the cybersecurity community to ensure no one faces cybercrime alone. We provide free, expert support to individuals affected by cybercrime, digital fraud and online harm, helping them understand what has happened, secure their accounts and devices, recover safely and regain control.

Since launching, we have supported more than 100,000 people through our helpdesk and millions more through accessible self-help guidance. Every month, more than 25,000 people access our self-help service for practical advice and support.

We bridge the gap between technical cyber response and human support, combining expert digital guidance with empathy, clarity and care.

As demand for our services grows, we are investing in a stronger brand, marketing and audience engagement to ensure more people can find us when they need us, and more supporters can help sustain and grow our work.

The Cyber Helpline is a dynamic, fast-growth charity that has the ability to really drive change in the online world. We offer a flexible working environment, the chance to work with highly motivated colleagues, work with exciting partners and provide the chance for you to help make a difference.

Role Summary

The SEO Expert Volunteer will help more people find us at the moment they need us most. Many people affected by cybercrime turn straight to search engines for help, so our organic visibility directly affects how many people we can support. This role is central to making sure our website ranks well for the right terms, that our content is structured to answer people's questions, and that technical issues are fixed. The volunteer will audit, improve, and monitor our SEO performance.

Key Responsibilities

The SEO Expert Volunteer will be responsible for the following:

  • Auditing the website's technical SEO health, including crawlability, indexing, site speed, mobile usability, and structured data.

  • Reviewing and improving on-page SEO across key pages — titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking, and content structure.

  • Monitoring search performance using Google Search Console and GA4, tracking rankings, impressions, clicks, and organic traffic trends.

  • Conducting keyword research to identify the terms and questions people affected by cybercrime, fraud, and online harm are searching for.

  • Advising on content gaps and opportunities, working with the team to prioritise new or updated pages based on search demand.

  • Identifying and helping resolve technical issues that could be limiting search visibility (e.g. broken links, duplicate content, poor page experience).

  • Advising on backlink quality and outreach opportunities.

  • Building reporting to show the team progress against key SEO metrics over time.

  • Documenting SEO recommendations and setup so they can be understood and maintained by others in the future.

This role would suit someone with hands-on SEO experience, or someone looking to build a portfolio of real-world SEO work for a good cause.

  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data.

  • Ability to explain technical findings in plain, non-technical language.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Preferred
