About The Cyber Helpline

The Cyber Helpline is a charity founded by the cybersecurity community to ensure no one faces cybercrime alone. We provide free, expert support to individuals affected by cybercrime, digital fraud and online harm, helping them understand what has happened, secure their accounts and devices, recover safely and regain control.

Since launching, we have supported more than 100,000 people through our helpdesk and millions more through accessible self-help guidance. Every month, more than 25,000 people access our self-help service for practical advice and support.

We bridge the gap between technical cyber response and human support, combining expert digital guidance with empathy, clarity and care.

As demand for our services grows, we are investing in a stronger brand, marketing and audience engagement to ensure more people can find us when they need us, and more supporters can help sustain and grow our work.

The Cyber Helpline is a dynamic, fast-growth charity that has the ability to really drive change in the online world. We offer a flexible working environment, the chance to work with highly motivated colleagues, work with exciting partners and provide the chance for you to help make a difference.

Role Summary

The Marketing Data & Analytics Volunteer will help us understand how people find us, what they do once they arrive, and where we're losing them along the way. This role is central to making sure our marketing spend and website performance are measured accurately, so the team can make decisions based on real data. The volunteer will set up and maintain our tracking infrastructure — GA4, GAds, conversion tracking, tagging, and ad platform pixels — and provide ongoing analysis to support marketing and growth decisions.

Key Responsibilities

The Marketing Data & Analytics Volunteer will be responsible for the following:

  • Setting up and configuring Google Analytics 4 (GA4), including custom events, conversions, and audiences relevant to our goals.

  • Implementing and maintaining Google Tag Manager, ensuring tags fire correctly and data is clean and reliable.

  • Setting up Google Ads conversion tracking, linking GA4 and Google Ads accounts, and ensuring conversion actions are correctly attributed.

  • Installing and testing tracking pixels (e.g. Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or others as needed) across the website.

  • Supporting basic ad operations tasks — campaign tracking setup, UTM conventions, and troubleshooting tracking discrepancies across platforms.

  • Building and maintaining dashboards or reports that summarise website and campaign performance for the team.

  • Auditing existing tracking setup to identify gaps, duplicate tags, or broken conversions, and recommending fixes.

  • Advising the team on data-informed decisions — for example, which channels are driving the most valuable traffic or where the conversion funnel is leaking.

  • Documenting the tracking setup so it can be understood and maintained by others in the future.

Requirements

This role would suit someone with hands-on experience in web analytics and digital marketing measurement, or someone looking to build a portfolio of real-world analytics work for a good cause.

Essential

  • Practical experience setting up and using Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

  • Experience with Google Tag Manager.

  • Experience configuring Google Ads conversion tracking.

  • Familiarity with tracking pixels (Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or similar).

  • Comfortable troubleshooting tracking issues (e.g. missing events, duplicate conversions, misattributed traffic).

  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data.

  • Ability to explain technical findings in plain, non-technical language.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Preferred

  • Experience with broader ad operations (campaign setup, audience segmentation, UTM governance).

  • Familiarity with consent management / cookie consent tools and their effect on tracking (e.g. Google Consent Mode).

  • Experience with dashboarding tools (Looker Studio, etc.).

  • Broader digital marketing or paid media experience.

Additional requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be aged 18 or over

  • Be resident in the UK

  • Be eligible to work in the UK

Successful candidates will be required to complete appropriate background and criminal record checks due to the nature of the role and potential access to sensitive personal data.
