About The Cyber Helpline
The Cyber Helpline is a charity founded by the cybersecurity community to ensure no one faces cybercrime alone. We provide free, expert support to individuals affected by cybercrime, digital fraud and online harm, helping them understand what has happened, secure their accounts and devices, recover safely and regain control.
Since launching, we have supported more than 100,000 people through our helpdesk and millions more through accessible self-help guidance. Every month, more than 25,000 people access our self-help service for practical advice and support.
We bridge the gap between technical cyber response and human support, combining expert digital guidance with empathy, clarity and care.
As demand for our services grows, we are investing in a stronger brand, marketing and audience engagement to ensure more people can find us when they need us, and more supporters can help sustain and grow our work.
The Cyber Helpline is a dynamic, fast-growth charity that has the ability to really drive change in the online world. We offer a flexible working environment, the chance to work with highly motivated colleagues, work with exciting partners and provide the chance for you to help make a difference.
Role Summary
The Content Creator Volunteer will help us explain cybersecurity and online safety topics clearly and engagingly, mainly through video, so people can quickly understand what to do and trust the advice they're getting. This role is central to making our guidance feel human, clear, and easy to act on — mainly through video, but also through supporting visuals and design. The volunteer will produce and edit video content for our website and social channels, and create supporting design assets that help our advice land clearly and build trust.
Key Responsibilities
The Content Creator Volunteer will be responsible for the following:
Planning, creating, and editing short-form video content explaining cyber safety topics, scam warnings, and step-by-step guidance for people affected by cybercrime.
Turning written guidance and expert input into clear, engaging video scripts suitable for a non-technical audience.
Editing raw footage into polished videos for social media, YouTube, and the website, including captions, cuts, and simple motion graphics.
Designing supporting visual assets — graphics, thumbnails, social tiles, and simple infographics — to accompany video and written content.
Repurposing longer content into shorter clips suitable for different platforms (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn).
Working with the team to identify which topics most need clear video or visual explanation, based on the questions people are actually asking.
Keeping a simple content calendar or backlog so video and design work is planned.
Creating simple video guidelines or "how-to" documentation (e.g. editing style, templates).
Requirements
This role would suit someone with hands-on video editing and design experience, or someone looking to build a portfolio of real-world content work for a good cause.
Essential
Practical experience filming and/or editing video content (e.g. Premiere Pro, CapCut, or similar).
Comfortable writing or adapting scripts for a general, non-technical audience.
Basic design skills for supporting graphics (e.g. Canva, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite).
Strong sense of tone — able to make sensitive, sometimes distressing subject matter feel calm and approachable.
Attention to detail, particularly around accessibility (captions, contrast, clarity).
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Preferred
Experience creating content for social platforms (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts).
Motion graphics or animation experience.
Experience with brand guidelines or building a visual identity.
Prior experience creating content for a charity or public-interest organisation.
Additional requirements
Applicants must:
