October for Online Safety

Cyber Awareness Month 2024: Support Victims & Empower Their Recovery

Cybercrime is a growing threat that impacts not just individuals but entire families and communities.

This October, in honour of Cyber Awareness Month, The Cyber Helpline is on a mission to raise £30,000 to expand and enhance our vital support for victims of online harm. With the rapid rise in cybercrime and a 120% increase in victim reports over the past year, we urgently need additional resources to meet the growing demand for help.

Your donation can make a difference in ensuring we can support every victim.

The Growing Threat of Cybercrime

Cybercrime isn’t just an online issue; it deeply impacts the lives of those affected. We estimate that 1 in every 10 people is affected by a cyber attack. The scale of the problem is stark:

1) Cybercrime now accounts for over 50% of all crime in the UK, yet 87% of victims receive no formal help from authorities.

2) Over 70% of victims experience severe effects on their mental health and daily lives.

3) 61% of cybercrime victims report significant impacts on their families, including emotional distress.

My heart is racing. I don’t know what to do and I don’t feel safe anymore.
— Mary, 32
I ran out of money, I got scammed and lost all of my savings... I don’t know what to do.
— Tim, 45

How The Cyber Helpline Is Making a Difference

The Cyber Helpline is committed to providing essential support to those affected by cybercrime. With over 2,000 victims reaching out to us every month, we offer:

The Helpline Responder helped my case get resolved. My perpetrator is now going to court over the crimes committed against me.
— Bridget, 37
Yesterday my perpetrator was named and taken into custody to be interviewed and devices seized. My abuse has stopped. Thank you for being so readily available online.
— Sandy, 24

It costs £750 to keep just one volunteer on our helpline for a year. Without the necessary funds raised in October, we won't be able to sustain our services or add the volunteers needed to meet the growing demand. We rely on your generosity to keep our lifeline open and protect vulnerable individuals and families for the coming year. Every donation counts.

What will your donation support?

£8: Provides a victim access to The Cyber Helpline’s intelligent chatbot, offering vital resources.

£15: Allows a victim to receive confidential, one-on-one support from a cybersecurity expert.

£30: Covers the cost of expert assistance for one individual and helps support other victims of cybercrime.

If you'd like to take your support further, consider organising a fundraiser or participating in our charity’s October events!
