The Cyber Helpline Featured on ITV's Tonight & Lunchtime News
Last night The Cyber Helpline was featured on ITV’s Tonight programme ‘Tech Abuse: Stopping The Stalkers’. As part of the show The Cyber Helpline used its experience in working on cyberstalking cases to run a real life experiment that showed viewers how cyberstalking is carried out, the impact and what you can do to protect yourself.
A real-life experiment
The experiment focused on Danny & Dan, a couple who have a host of smart technology in their home and personal lives. The Cyber Helpline team focused on three areas 1) finding location data, 2) gathering public information about the couple that was online and 3) using the knowledge of the individuals to stalk their partner (a common type of stalking).
As the show outlines, and without using any particular technical skill, we were able to find passwords, financial details and access the couple’s home smart technology including cameras.
